Discover Warrington's Restored Firehouse Legacy

The Warrington Fire Department, established after the Sassaman fire in 1919, has been a protective force in our community for over a century. Experience a piece of Warrington's history brought to life through the careful restoration of our original firehouse.

Story by Mary Doyle Roth of the Warrington Historical Society

Warrington Historical Society is happy to report that the original firehouse on Maple Avenue has been restored.

When it first went on the market, potential buyers planned on demolishing part of the building. The township, its historical commission and its historical society discouraged them.

Then Peter Walts came along. He wanted to restore the building back to its 1934 glory. Being a volunteer firefighter in Horsham, the old firehouse excited him. Several zoning variances were needed from the township to allow parking on the small building lot, but everything went smoothly because of the history behind it.

A. Oscar Martin, a renowned Doylestown architect, designed both the garage and the attached building. Its final restoration is beyond what the society expected. It is now the headquarters of Centropy Group. It has a state-of-the-art studio for podcasts, vlogs and webinars.

During the restoration Walts formed the nonprofit “Fire One Museum” to celebrate the legacy of the firefighters who once operated in the area. The restored firehouse features a collection of memorabilia from local volunteer fire companies and even has acquired an old firetruck.

It hosts educational and training classes. Spaces are also available for community activities, corporate meetings, private events and shared studios.
